Just My Luck - Reader's Favorite Review

Just My Luck is a work of fiction in the realistic drama, slice of life, and thriller sub-genres, and was penned by author duo Lelia Coles and Rosilyn Seay. Written for mature reading audiences, there are some non-graphic references to violence and rape which some readers may find triggering. The two central figures in this dark but realistic piece are Antoinette (Twanie) and Tina, a mother and daughter who are dealt more than their fair share of hardship by the world. Antoinette has survived plenty of difficulties, but when she goes missing and Tina is left to fend for herself, we see a whole new world of struggles opening up. What follows is a close-up examination of journeying into adulthood, and the traumas we carry there with us.

Author duo Lelia Coles and Rosilyn Seay have crafted a powerfully dramatic work that speaks to the heart and lays its characters out in a raw and highly effective way. One of the things that really impressed me about the work was the narrative style, which gives us a close insight into how the characters feel through speech and action presentation. Tina especially resonated with me when deciding how to proceed with her biggest dilemmas; it was as if you could feel the tension in her heart. This kind of emotive expression mixes well with the deeply realistic atmosphere of the rough city streets, and overall it makes Just My Luck a highly readable and engrossing work of drama that fans of the genre will be sure to enjoy.
